Domiciliary Care

What is Domiciliary Care?

Domiciliary care, also known as home care services, refers to a range of tailored personal care and support provided to individuals in the comfort of their own homes. At Shalles Homecare, we deliver flexible and reliable care that can be as brief as a 30-minute visit — whether it’s to assist with medication, prepare meals, or provide companionship.

Our goal is to help you live as independently as possible, supporting your dignity, comfort, and daily routines — while promoting social engagement and personal well-being.

What Does a Support Worker Do?

A support worker is a trained care professional who visits individuals at home to provide personal and practical support. This includes:

Personal hygiene: washing, dressing, shaving, and oral care

Toileting assistance

Feeding and meal preparation

Domestic tasks: cleaning, laundry, and shopping

Mobility assistance, including transferring to/from bed, chair, or toilet using specialist equipment like hoists

At Shalles Homecare, all support workers are carefully trained in manual handling techniques, safeguarding, and the use of assistive equipment to ensure your safety and comfort.

What If My Care Needs Change?

Our domiciliary care is flexible and adaptable. If your needs change, your dedicated Care Manager will arrange a re-assessment and adjust your care package accordingly. Whether you need more hours, different services, or temporary adjustments, we’ll make the process seamless and stress-free.

Will I Have the Same Support Worker Every Day?

We aim to ensure consistency in your care. Most clients have one or two regular support workers, depending on the number and frequency of care visits. This allows continuity, while ensuring cover for periods when your regular carer may be on holiday or unavailable.

Live-In Care

Will My Live-In Carer Be Trained for My Specific Needs?

Yes. At Shalles Homecare, we take full responsibility for ensuring your live-in carer is not only professionally trained, but also closely matched to your individual care needs and preferences.

Your carer will receive continuous support, regular supervisions, and opportunities for ongoing training. Every carer we place is thoroughly vetted, DBS-checked, and trained to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.

How Will Breaks and Time Off Be Managed?

Your live-in carer will occasionally require time off to rest or spend time with their family. During such periods, we’ll seamlessly introduce a fully trained replacement carer who will arrive at your home with a full overnight handover, ensuring that your care continues without disruption.

Our focus is on making transitions smooth and maintaining your comfort and peace of mind.

How Will Shopping Be Managed?

Your live-in carer can assist with shopping in several ways, based on your preference:

  • Handling small daily purchases
  • Managing the weekly shopping (within a reasonable budget)
  • Accepting home delivery orders
  • Working in partnership with family members who prefer to do larger weekly shops

We’ll agree together on the most convenient and practical approach.

What Other Costs Should I Consider?

The total cost of live-in care includes both direct costs (such as carer wages and care management) and indirect costs (like training, supervision, insurance, and administration). We offer transparent pricing with no hidden fees — and your dedicated Care Manager will explain everything in advance, so you can plan with confidence.
